Cowboy Bob Sorensen Strikes Again

UPDATE: 3:29 p.m. PDT: Cowboy Bob leaves two comments and I respond.

Gods that don't exist and people who talk to themselves
Back on September 30, 2012, I created this graphic and posted to the FaceBook community, Question the 'Question Evolution Project'.  Just this past Friday, June 14, 2013, I received an email from the FaceBook authorities that it was removed because Cowboy Bob Sorensen (AKA Stormbringer, Piltdown Superman, Uncle Pilty, and numerous other aliases) filed a complaint claiming that I violated his copyright under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA).

Following FaceBook's advice to resolve this directly, I emailed Bob this morning.
Dear Cowboy Bob,
I recently received notice from FaceBook that they "received a notice from a third party that the content infringes their copyright(s)."  That content was removed under the procedures of Section 512(c) of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA).
The content was a meme I generated using a photo that presumably is one of you and posted to the community Question the 'Question Evolution Project'. The photo I used came from a blog entitled Gods that don't exist and people who talk to themselves.
I contend that the use of your photo is fair use as defined in Section 105 of the copyright law (title 17, U.S. Code).  As such, I do not require your permission to use it, but I am contacting you in the hope that we can resolve this directly.  If you would quickly email FaceBook with your consent to my use of said photo and reference Notice # 394967200609674, I would greatly appreciate it.
As I mentioned above, the use of that photo is fair use; I will be filing a DMCA counter-notification with FaceBook. In support of my contention, I note that you filed a similar claim against Gods that don't exist sometime around February 2013.  The author of that blog filed a successful DCMA counter claim and your photo is once again prominently displayed.
With regards,
Cowboy Bob threatened me with a law suit once before, because… Well, let's use his words.
That was 11 months ago.

Should Cowboy Bob succeed in keeping that graphic off of Facebook, I've found another picture I'll use from here on out.

Cowboy Bob replies:
No, it has never been legally used. Botten used it without permission. "Fair Use" is an American law, and I was unwilling to undertake the expense of international legislative action. This is in no wise "Fair Use", as it is my property, used without my permission, for the sake of libeling and defaming me; it is not "parody", it was used strictly for juvenile and petty humiliation. So you DO require me permission to use it, and I deny your claim.

Does your college approve of your vindictive, childish behavior? This, plus your previously documented stalking of me, will not help your "case", and you are also embarrassing your employer.

  1. Since you are kind enough to put your habit of lying on record, I'll spend a moment to set it straight. First *I* did not "threaten you with a lawsuit", I merely pointed out that it was possible.

Second, I applaud your desire to make the bad image of atheists (the most disliked and least trusted group) even worse. Can you demonstrate to the class how you know that I only read one book? Further, can you demonstrate that I claim expertise in the areas that you claim? No, this is libelous, plain and simple.

By the way, "credit" does not mean approval; Hanna-Barbera Productions could issue a suit against you.

Are you sure you're a college professor? You do not exhibit the education or intelligence required of one, but you do have the childish antics of an angry atheopath. Put down the pinot noir and actually think.

    1. Dear Cowboy Bob, Uncle Pilty, Stormbringer, Piltdown Superman, and whatever other monikers you use,

It is no wonder that a scientiapath such as yourself would have trouble understanding parody, but it is surprising that you don't understand fair use. My use of screenshots and the photo (which I have no independent confirmation that it is actually you) falls entirely within the guidelines of Section 105. Above I provide a link about fair use.

When you wrote in a comment on Aug, 21, 2012,"opening yourself up for a law suit," it sure seemed like a threat to me. It's reassuring to know that was not the case. What do I make of your libel claim today? Again it seems to be a threat.

Now let's explore parody. On your Stormbringer's Thunder blog, you often expound on the subjects mentioned in the graphic. It seems clear you do claim some expertise. Are you now admitting that you do not know what you're talking about when it comes to biology, geology, physics, and chemistry? As to the "one book" remark, I am obviously parodying your presuppositional biblical creationism. Can you also remove some confusion? Which part is do you think is libelous - the part where I plainly mock your creationism ("one book") or is it the part where I openly tease you about your "expertise'?

Since I figure your furiously typing an email to Hanna-Barbera Productions, I'll deal with them when they contact me.

Let me end this note with an offer that if you wish to learn some physics, feel free to contact me. If you'd like to learn biology, geology or chemistry, I can recommend several good universities near you. You might be surprised how much there is that isn't in that one book.

p.s. What happened to all your FaceBook accounts?

    2. By the way, Bob, since I allow everyone to comment on my blog, will you allow at least me to comment on yours?

    3. I see you don't mind posting graphics. Here you took the album art from Deep Purple. You didn't even bother to attribute it.

    4. Bob also posted this - http://answersforhope.com/the-unbelievers-morality-in-action/ (this page is a copy of the original that was hosted by Posterous - guess what happened to it? Yup, I had it pulled via a SUCCESSFUL DMCA claim that Bob was unable to counter!) - so how he can howl and rage about people reproducing a picture of him is an utter mystery to me.

    5. Dear Cowboy Bob,
A friend of yours from Brick, New Jersey, reminded me of this from your Piltdown Superman alter ego. On September 9, 2012, you threatened that "Other measures are in the works that I will not divulge." How are those coming along?

    6. Any comments about this, Cowboy?

    2. Bob, given that there is a precedent set for Fair Use around this image (I cite Wordpress/Automaticc) I would suggest that you are on a hiding to nothing here.

  3. What good does this do? You guys are clinging to your doubtful 'right' to post a picture harassing a guy. Does it prove atheism or evolution? Frankly, it's vindictive, stupid and not good for anything. Or is this what they teach at that backwater junior college in California? And for citing Wordpress, Botten did not'win' a bloody thing, the complainer simply withdrew, moron.

    1. Harass? You certainly need a dictionary, Searlas (if that is your real name). Furthermore, what's with the name calling. Bob calls me childish; you call me stupid and a moron. Then there's that attempt to insult me by calling into question the academic rigor of a Los Angeles area community college. While I openly mock the Piltdown Superman and his project, I do not recall ever resorting to this playground tactic.

    3. AHAHAHA! Bob knew he wouldn't win if he took it to court! He hasn't the money to even challenge this! Vann needs to stick to his guns.

      Delete
    4. So it's beat the system for revenge & spite. Stick to your guns, prove you're pricks. But we know that already. So if he plays your game, you can't complain if your ugly faces show up on the internet w/captions right?

    5. 'Searlas (if that is your real name)'

Alright, if you're noble enough to mock names, how about if you drive your Vann into the Pacific Ocean?

'While I openly mock the Piltdown Superman and his project, I do not recall ever resorting to this playground tactic.'

But making up stuff posting a picture and trying to be funny is noble or something?

    6. Dear Searlas,

Wow. Pricks? Ugly faces? Still on the playground, eh. And you couldn't come up with something better than "driving a Vann"?

As to your name, you seem to be overly sensitive. Nowhere did I mock your name. It's a fine Irish name. What I was referring to, and I apologize if it was a bit obtuse, was the fact that you have almost no internet presence. You used to have a FaceBook account, but that was deactivated by you or FB administrators sometime after April 30, 2013. The cowboy is alleged to use sock puppets, and I was suspicious that you might be one of them.

    7. Cowboy Bob is sometimes a bit more inventive when it comes to making fun. On September 9, 2012 on his Piltdown Superman blog, he called me the "priest of peevishness." Even I must admit that's pretty clever.

  4. Forgot to add that if Facebook sides with you it doesn't mean you're in the right, it just means that they side with you. Some places don't allow appeal, you violate DMCA in their eyes and they shut the door on you.

    1. "Some places don't allow appeal." Citation please.

    2. Searlas, since you don't know the relevant law here, let me cite it for you. 17 U.S.C. § 512(g)(2)(B) . A counter claim is authorized under the law.

    3. I'm not talking about the law, I'm talking about some places. If Facebook says they're done, they're done. If Pinterest says they're taking something down and screw you, you're done and can't appeal through them.

    4. Once again, Searlas, you're wrong. A quick trip over to Pinterest (http://about.pinterest.com/copyright/) would have saved you from being so mistaken. To save you the time, here is the text on DMCA counter-notices - "If you believe a Pin was removed in error, you have the option to file a counter-notice by following the steps below." They even include instructions to email the counter-notice to copyright@pinterest.com.

  5. I am an internet friend of Bob's. You seem to be in the business of derision. Derision is the last resort of the ignorant man when he has no evidence nor logic to bring to the argument. Your decision to deride Bob is indicative of the notion that you do not have a brainpower to actually argue with him on the evidence.

If the above is not true, you will cease your rather childish lampooning and make reasoned arguments instead.

    2. Dear Radaractive,

You call it derision; I call it parody. To-MAY-to/to-MAH-to. As to arguing with the cowboy on the evidence, I asked him to do that very thing. Here's the invitation I wrote on this blog: "If any of the administrators from those pages wish to comment on this blog, they are free to do so. All I ask is that they not do so anonymously. They are free to use whatever language they see fit to use. They will not be banned."

He didn't even have to courtesy to respond much less decline. He has probably conveniently forgotten, but I presented evidence that his biblical literalism leads inexorably to a conclusion even he finds silly.

So please contact your internet friend and remind him of my offer to argue the evidence.

I do admire though your attitude that derision is the last resort of an ignorant man. Here are a couple of comments made my the cowboy. "He's too busy flinging poo from the safety of Diaper Fillers." "He doesn't make fun of your chronic constipation, or Nate for being only nine years old." He also seems fond of calling those that disagree with him Cupcake, Nellie, Skippy (which border on homophobic), Darwin's cheerleaders (which is vaguely misogynist), Evo Sith, and stormtrooper. Let me know how Bob feels about you calling him ignorant and childish.

p.s. Why do you blog anonymously? Something to hide?

    1. Dear Anonymous,

What personal attack? Cowboy Bob is the administrator at the hilariously named "The Question Evolution Project" and "United Seekers of Truth" on Facebook and a frequent blogger at the curiously named Stormbringer's Thunder, the erroneously named Evolutionary Truth by Piltdown Superman, and the completely illogical 101 Arguments. Cowboy Bob is a biblical literalist who I've shown quite bizarrely doesn't take the bible literally. Furthermore, I find his irrational takes on science worthy of not only response, but parody.

I do whole heartedly agree with you that Bob Sorensen is "low hanging fruit."

      Thanks for visiting.

    3. I can question Evolution all day long, period.. And I love science. =*) I also love several translations of the Bible & study the Bible in Hebrew, Greek, & on some levels, Aramaic & Chaldean AND AGAIN; I love science & there's tons of Science in the Bible. Physics is in the Bible, But unless you read Hebrew or are a pretty deep thinker, you're probably not going to see it.. but its there. These posts are more than a Year old, so I might not get any serious attention or sane intervention going here..but, I've decided to comment anyway. I've been following a little bit of Cowboy Bobs stuff for a couple of weeks. He may know 'something' about the Bible, he may even be a Christian..? (I don't know) but he has terrible tactics on proving his points, & he does do what Vann Priest has said..he simply refuses to let anybody "disagree with him at all" or having rational type discussions by simply deleting everyone's information who tries to make a point with him or, point where he just might possibly be in error. Obviously for a Christian personality he seems to be kind of a pompous child. Any true scientist that wants to argue against Creation tho, should actually study more about the thousands of archaeological proofs that exist today, & the many tremendous 'proofs' today that completely wipe out ALL previously supposed grounds for a serious mind to believe in the theories of evolution. All of Darwin's major claims have been proven to be completely impossible in the last 15-20 years. Even medical, Doctor, neurological and nursing books having to do with the human brain AND the genomes are having to be updated and some even thrown out. So it might be good for evolutionist types to do some serious, updated studies in this area because sooner or later you're going to come up against some people who may actually prove you to be off...& although your students may not be learned enough to be embarrassing you in your classes, if you're really a 'respecter' of science; then take another look at the neurological & genetic sciences. You may find yourself amazed... because they clearly prove that humans could NOT have evolved from our lower life forms. Not ANY OF THEM.
